Scorsby Sund, Greenland

Scorsby Sund is the largest fjord system in the world. I purposely didn’t do any research on the landscapes or scenery before the trip to ensure a sense of wonder, and Greenland did not disappoint.

I was aboard the schooner Opal for about a week and a half, navigating through dense ice-fields, through massive fjords and around giant icebergs. The entire trip was like a movie. It felt unfair to be there because I didn’t feel like a deserved to see such a beautiful environment.

Life aboard the Opal was definitely unlike anything I’ve experienced. From a very cramped bunk, to a small shared shower for the whole boat, it was real and raw. It seemed like we were on an actual expedition, which I absolutely loved. I will note that most people would not be a fan of the living conditions due to lack of space, and the fact that toilet paper could not be flushed.

I think this trip was a turning point in my photography journey. I learned a lot about myself and let the pressure of getting the shot just roll off my back. I felt great and carefree. It was liberating not to worry. Along with that, I think I learned to appreciate the shot rather than focus on the camera and I learned to really hone what technique to use, or what composition to frame.

Overall I’m satisfied with the finished photos. Here are the select few that I really want to show you.
